In this article you will learn proven and effective ways to take back control during an attack, reduce the intensity and shorten the length.</p>
<p>The first of the panic attack tips is to try not to fight the feelings. Doing so will likely increase the adrenaline production and make everything worse. Observe and accept the intense feelings without battling them. This will help them pass more quickly and remain less intense. They will pass.</p>
<p>Remember that feelings can not kill you. No matter how bad it is, you will not die. Then negative feelings will pass and you will be OK again. You just have to hold on until it is over. Focusing outside of yourself can help get through it. Some people find focusing on music helpful.</p>
<p>Breathe. Put your hand on your belly and make it rise when you breath. Belly breathing can relax you. Breathing with your chest increases tension. So your belly should move first and at the the end of the breath, the chest moves. As you exhale, say RELAX to yourself. A couple minutes of this can work wonders.<span id="more-128"></span></p>
<p>Submersing your face in ice cold water is one of the fastest ways to halt the attack symptoms in their tracks. This triggers the dive reflex in which the body goes into survival mode, thinking it has been submerged in icy water. This reflex overrides the anxiety attack. Hold your breath and submerge your face in icy water for 30 seconds. If that is not possible, try splashing cold water on your face.</p>
<p>If you feel an attack coming on or are caught in the middle of one here is a panic attack tip that can calm you down. Breath into a brown paper sack or into your cupped hands. The increased levels of carbon dioxide will help to relax you. As you calm you can shift into doing the belly breathing exercise described above.</p>
<p>These five panic attack tips can be your first steps in reclaiming your life. The attacks can be controlled and you can live a full and happy life. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>There are many methods to assist those suffering anxiety, panic attacks and ongoing stress as a result of simply not being able to cope with the trials and tribulations of everyday life in the modern world. The problem with most of these techniques is that they actually focus on the problem and remind the sufferer to be aware of their problem.</p>
<p>A well known but under-utilised method of addressing anxiety and panic is to spend a little time each day &#8211; even as little as five or ten minutes &#8211; considering the things in life we do have to be grateful for. A Gratitude List, if you like. If you&#8217;re suffering a serious, or tragic situation, this method may have little effect. However for the greater portion of normal, everyday people, who live a normal, everyday life in a developed country of the world, our real, true and justified worries are few &#8211; relatively speaking &#8211; and we have a lot to be grateful for.</p>
<p>Consider the scene confronting you if you were to walk through the corridors of a children&#8217;s oncology ward; if you were to walk the streets where the homeless roam; or face a family having lost several family members in a tragedy; or lost the family home to fire or flood. Consider further the millions living in poor nations of the world with little food, no shelter, insufficient medical assistance. The women who needlessly die or suffer physical trauma in childbirth. Countries where people are not free to make their own choices.<span id="more-125"></span></p>
<p>Our concerns, problems and worries are real &#8211; no doubt about that. Anxiety builds and lives with us on a daily basis and panic attacks take over when we&#8217;re at our lowest ebb. These issues are best confronted, treated and dealt with in the interests of long term better health and wellbeing. However, putting our problems in relative perspective can be refreshing, relieving and even uplifting &#8211; if only for a few moments.</p>
<p>So each day, either mentally or with pen and paper, write down as many things that you have to be happy about in your life as you can. Here&#8217;s some questions to get you started (and if you don&#8217;t think these things make you happy, consider your feelings if the answer is &#8216;no&#8217; to any or each of them):</p>
<p>Do you have a roof over your head?</p>
<p>A bed in which to sleep?<br />
Do you have food each day, several times a day?<br />
Do you have enough clothes to keep you warm?<br />
Access to education and medical assistance?<br />
Do you have friends and a family who love and accept you?<br />
Are you free to make your own choices in life? And live how you wish?</p>
<p>If you can answer &#8216;yes&#8217; to most of these questions, then you may benefit greatly from keeping and regularly updating a personal Gratitude List.</p>
