What is the Lemon Diet?

There are about as many lemon diets today as there are…well, lemons. Most variations of the Lemon Diet are derived from the program created by Stanley Burroughs known as the Master Cleanse. Since that time the practice and ingredients have been adapted to many other types of diet including 3 Day-Detox. Most commonly you consume a drink made from water, lemons, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for a period of time. This is not a routine I would recommend for beginners, even for 3 days. It is, however, very effective and is especially recommended for spring and autumn.

How to make Detox Lemonade.

Using three 1-liter bottles this recipe makes a one day supply of detox lemonade.

* 14 Table Spoons Lemon Juice
* 14 Table Spoons Maple Syrup
* 1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper – or to taste
* 2 Liters of water Continue reading ‘Using the Lemon Diet For 3 Day-Detox’ »

Most of us are not aware that colon cancer is actually the second most threatening cancer in the world. Probably because most of the information we see on TV and read in magazines are usually about lung or breast cancer – not that it is the least dangerous or life threatening at all! It is just that has not been enough awareness about this particular disease.

The colon, which is sometimes referred to as the large intestine, is not entirely all of it, but a good portion of the entire length. Its function in the digestive system is to store waste material that is ready for expulsion from the body. A healthy colon needs about 20 grams of dietary fiber in a day, also known as roughage; this comprises the indigestible portions of carbohydrates found in fruits and vegetables. There are two main classifications of dietary fiber – soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber dissolves with the water in body and binds cholesterol with the stool, helping it move along. Insoluble fiber does the opposite and absorbs water, creating a bulk which makes it easier for the muscles to move the waste and sweeping the tract as it goes along. This article is written for folks who want to know how long alcohol stays in their systems. Most of these folks are probably going for a drug or an alcohol test. One thing you need to know is that the answer varies from one person to another. Your body is different. But it all depends on the number of bottles you have drunk. So, you should expect it to stay longer if you consume more and if you took few bottles, it usually gets out of your body quickly.

Be informed that alcohol enters your blood after consumption. There are couple of ways by which it leaves your body. These are through your sweat, breath and urine to mention a few. About 10% of what is consumed goes through these mediums. The rest is often broken down into by-products through metabolism in your body. This metabolic rate is known as blood alcohol concentration. The rate of this process is independent of your sex, age, weight and height.

Stimulant treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) significantly cuts the odds that adolescent girls will smoke, drink alcohol or use drugs, a new Massachusetts General Hospital study shows.

The finding parallels previous studies in boys, the team note.

People with ADHD are at significantly increased risk for cigarette smoking and substance abuse. In the past, there were concerns that treatment of ADHD with stimulant drugs such as Ritalin might increase the risk of drug or alcohol abuse.

But in several studies of boys and young men with ADHD, researchers have found that stimulant treatment actually decreases the risk and delays the onset of substance abuse in adolescence. It does not affect the risk of using tobacco, alcohol, or drugs in adulthood, however.

The same researchers set out to see how stimulant treatment for ADHD affects the risk of substance abuse in adolescent girls.

re you an alcoholic?

Not such a simple question. That one word “ALCOHOLIC” is absolutely loaded with tragedy. It screams failure, loser, wife-beater.

Drunk, lush, bum, wino, stewbelly, swillpot, tosspot, inebriate, barfly, and drunkard are all bedfellows of the alcoholic.

It is probably the worst kind of addiction that you could ever have…you are accepted legally in almost every town in the civilized world. The druggie has to hide, the smoker has to go outside, and the gambler…he can just hide the amount he loses.

But you can do your thing in full view of the public. Down to the pub…get drunk, get plastered. Stagger, reel, and pass out.

When is it time to stop? When is it time to admit what you are doing?

Do you need to admit anything? How do you KNOW?

I’ll tell you. Stop drinking for a month. If you can do that without any problems, you just passed the test. Are you an alcoholic?

It is not uncommon for parents of a teen abusing a variety of illegal mind altering substances, to attempt to make a deal with the teen; “that if they quit everything else, they will be allowed to just use pot.” This is not surprising given that Marijuana is the most commonly abused drug in the world, primarily because of the euphoric effects it provides its users and the comforting false information spread worldwide about the drug.

Here are three myths about marijuana use, every parent should know.

Myth #1: You cannot get physically addicted to marijuana.
On the contrary, you can become addicted to marijuana. People who use the drug on a daily basis, will usually experience withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, poor appetite, and they can also become aggressive.

Myth # 2: Marijuana is Natural, so it must be good for you.
There are plenty of plants which are poisonous to human beings, so just because something is natural does not mean is safe for you. The negative effects of marijuana on the human body, primarily affect cognition. While subtle, the effects of marijuana, if used consistently over time can prove challenging to reverse. Some of the negative effects that marijuana has on the cognition are, loss of short term memory, and a slower processing speed, subsequently slowing down the brain’s ability to solve problems. In the case of adolescents, prolonged marijuana use will also slow or stall cognitive maturity and neuroplasticity.

There is a wide variety of detox diet plans publicized in magazines, on the Internet, and on television. Some take up to four weeks, and are ruled out as too extreme by many nutritionists. There are also milder, 24- to 72-hour detox diets combining fasting and drinking nothing but purified water for the first 24 hours.

The detoxification diet that targets the liver is the most effective of all the detox plans out there. Among the body’s most important instruments, your liver is an intricate and complicated organ with more than nine hundred functions. The liver filters toxins from your bloodstream. In our everyday lives, exposure to pollutants, combined with our own less-than-healthy diets, cause the liver to clog, something like a vacuum cleaner filter. In order to benefit from a colon cleanse, we must first do a little introspection. We must ask ourselves some serious questions about ourselves, and about how we are doing psychologically as well as physically. We must ask ourselves about our feelings, and one way to see how we are feeling is to ask what is going on in our colon and other intestinal areas. For it is there that many of our deepest secrets wait to be revealed as we seek them. “Know thyself!”, said the Delphic priestess thousands of years ago, and she was exactly right – both physically and mentally.

As a first step, examine carefully your feelings in your lower abdomen. Sit back in your chair and concentrate your mental focus on that part of your body. It will probably not be necessary for you to close your eyes, but try to have the lights lowered in the room where you think about your colon. Liver cleanse might be another thing for you to consider and to visualize while meditating on your colon and on its problems. The liver is something you will not feel quite as graphically as you feel your colon, but it is there, and ills that affect your colon will have a bad influence on your liver, too.
