Product Review – The AirCast Ankle Sprain Care Kit

Published: Jul 24th, 2010 | Author: Add Comment

Most people are familiar with the general treatment of an ankle injury. When the injury occurs there is pain, swelling, redness and difficulty walking. The usual course is to get off the ankle (rest), apply ice to the ankle (to reduce swelling and inflammation), elevate the extremity (to reduce pain and swelling) and wrap the ankle (for compression).

The absence of these treatments prolongs the patients disability and causes further pain and damage to soft tissue structures around the ankle joint.

The Ankle Sprain Kit by AirCast addresses the areas of treatment following a mild to moderate ankle sprain. It is one of the only complete systems for the functional management of an acute ankle sprain.

The Kit contains the classic Air-Stirrup Ankle Brace has been used for years by doctors and hospitals as an anatomically designed semi-rigid ankle stirrup for support and graduated compression during walking. The patented aircell system promotes compression and efficient edema control, which helps to accelerate and rehabilitate an injured ankle. (more…)

Give that gentle touch-

With acnes, it is necessary that you follow a regular cleansing regimen that’ll help you unclog the skin pores and prevent further bacteria formation. Use a mild cleanser to wash your face twice or thrice a day – first, during the morning hours i.e. before you leave your home for your day’s work, once in the evening and also after workouts. It is a common practice by acne sufferers to try and stop acne outbreaks by scrubbing their skin harder or by using powerful cleansers. But let me tell you, this only makes the problem worse. Neither will your acne get healed nor is your skin being protected from further attacks. Seek an expert advice to get the best cleanser off the shelf. No astringents to be used over skin with acnes, until and unless your skin type is very oily; and in case you have an oily scalp it is strongly recommended that you shampoo your hair daily. (more…)

Dosing Differences In Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements – What Is The Optimal Dose & Balance

Published: Jul 21st, 2010 | Author: Add Comment

A few years ago my pharmacist recommended I take omega 3 fatty acids, however what he failed to tell me about was the dosing differences in omega 3 fish oil supplements.

It’s a big issue worth understanding and thinking about because none of us really like taking more pills or capsules then we really need to on a daily basis.

The soft gels I first started using recommended taking 2 capsules 3 times a day for a total of 6. I kept doing this religiously for a couple of years until I became more interested in researching and learning about the benefits of fatty acids.

Know Your Addiction And The Possible Ways Of Its Cure

The definition of specific term ‘addiction’ is tough. What we generally know that addiction is a compulsion to iterate a behavior irrespective of its consequences. At the same time, a person, addicted, is called an addict. However, the term most commonly tends to include some sort of psychological dependence. In the context of drug addiction, we can bind the term as a recurring compulsion by an individual having been engaged in some specific activity of taking drugs or narcotics or substances. The biopsycholosocial model developed by scientists and doctors is generally accepted in scientific fields depending on the exact nature of dependency. We will be dealing with physical dependence on a substance that can be defined by the arousal of typical withdrawal syndrome when a narcotic substance is discontinued at once.

Opiates, drugs, alcohol and many substances like these can induce physical dependence. Many medications used for the treatment of drugs like Buprenorphine, naloxone, suboxone, etc. can also end up with addiction that means physical dependence. Suboxone, which contains chemicals like naloxone and Buprenorphine, is considered to be the first generation of opioid based medicines generally used to treat physical and psychological dependence on opiates such as heroin, oxycodone, morphine, Vicodin, and codeine. A critical survey has revealed that about 40 percent Americans struggle with opiate addiction and when suboxone is prescribed to help the addicts to wean off of substance abuse, then they grow a habit of using suboxone and gets intoxicated. Is ten minutes less on the treadmill all that bad?

Published: Jul 19th, 2010 | Author: Add Comment

Exercise is crucial for the person who is trying to lose weight. Granted, one can lose excess poundage by simply reducing his or her  calories below the level required for normal functioning. But the effect desired by most people who are on a weight loss program includes a toned musculature and an overall sense of energy or vitality.

Therefore, we need to exercise or work out on a daily basis. Failure to do so results in poor posture, lethargy, reduced skin tone, and lack of physical development. Even physicians concerned only with elimination of excess fat stores and decrease in levels of blood sugar solely for the prevention of diabetes would generally agree.

For a person trying to lose weight, there is most often an increased expectation on his or her exercise capacity. That is, a doctor may suggest a a daily hour’s worth of walking when there may never been such an expectation before. Or a person may require this of him or herself, possibly in tandem with others at local health club. That can initially be very hard on a person. (more…)
