With all the hubbub of the busy city life and insane economic condition of today, many of us have turned to drugs and alcohol as a relief from all the pent of stress, frustrations and other negative emotions. And this usually leads to addiction to the substance as the individual would like the idea that under the influence of these substances, they get a sense of temporary comfort and a somewhat imaginary breathing space, making all their troubles go away.
But the truth is, once an individual gets addicted, the hardest part of their life’s would be facing reality and living life the way it should be, which is to the fullest. If you find that you’re dependant on alcohol and or drugs, and seem to be going to the nearest pub after work instead of heading home more and more often, they you definitely have a problem and should look into quitting right now. Stimulant treatment for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) significantly cuts the odds that adolescent girls will smoke, drink alcohol or use drugs, a new Massachusetts General Hospital study shows.
The finding parallels previous studies in boys, the team note.
People with ADHD are at significantly increased risk for cigarette smoking and substance abuse. In the past, there were concerns that treatment of ADHD with stimulant drugs such as Ritalin might increase the risk of drug or alcohol abuse.
But in several studies of boys and young men with ADHD, researchers have found that stimulant treatment actually decreases the risk and delays the onset of substance abuse in adolescence. It does not affect the risk of using tobacco, alcohol, or drugs in adulthood, however.
The same researchers set out to see how stimulant treatment for ADHD affects the risk of substance abuse in adolescent girls.

There have been many modern advances in the world of health care, and research has unlocked many mysteries when it comes to medicine. One of the areas that has seen some advances is the treatment of substance abuse, where professionals are learning how best to treat individuals addicted to drugs or alcohol. But still today, the number of lives affected by drug abuse and alcoholism is increasing, and many people have turned to prescription opiate such as hydrocodone or oxycodone, and it really hasn’t gotten much easier to help those people get sober. In 2002 I began to experience heart palpitations. I was driving my vehicle down the road to have coffee with a buddy. I felt relaxed and I was not aware of any stress in my life. As I pulled up to a light that was just changing to red, my heart took off. I felt as though I was going to pass out. I could see things going black. I quickly slammed the vehicle into ‘park’ just in case I blacked out.
I remember coughing a couple of times and thinking “what the hell’s going on?”. Fortunately, by the time the light when green, I was coming out of it enough to chance proceeding. It passed in minutes and I put it behind me. But it scared me like nothing else has ever done!
Two hours later, while having coffee with my friend, the rapid heart rate returned. I could not continue. I told my friend I had to go to the hospital and I got up and left. I drove myself to the emergency ward, which was only two miles a way. I had a heart rate of 220 beats per minute and felt like I was about to die.
